Gan Shalom Cooperative Preschool Lead Teacher

Gan Shalom Cooperative Preschool is seeking a lead preschool teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Candidates for this position should enjoy working with young children, be warm, creative, and understand the progression of childhood development. This is a part-time 5 day-a-week position, Monday-Friday 8:30am-1:30pm. We meet at 212 E. Capitol St NE, Washington, DC.

Gan Shalom Cooperative Preschool is for children ages 24 months-4 years old on Capitol Hill. At Gan Shalom our goal is to create a warm, loving, Jewish community in which children feel safe enough to accept the challenge to try new things, expand their horizons and learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. We create opportunities, which facilitate the development of the whole child through active, meaningful play. The philosophy of Gan Shalom takes inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, a student-centered and constructivist pedagogic model utilizing self-directed and experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. Our primary focus is on the development of social-emotional skills as they form the basis of success in all other development areas. Parents are very involved in our preschool.

The school does not discriminate against persons on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, national origin, citizenship status or age. Final appointment is conditional upon the completion of a background check satisfactory to the school. Applicants from all religious backgrounds welcomed but must be willing to learn and teach Jewish values, rituals, and traditions.
