All-Day Shavuot Retreat

Saturday, May 30, 2020 7 Sivan 5780

9:30 AM - 7:45 PM

This year, Hill Havurah is celebrating Shavuot and our receiving of the Torah with our first-ever day-long retreat! Yes, we’re physically distancing; so no, we won’t actually be leaving our homes for the day -- but we’ll be shifting our behavior so much for the day that it truly will be a retreat. Join us for a diverse, full day of learning, prayer, movement, music, and connection.

Here’s the rundown of the schedule:

9:30 - 10:00 am --  Tot Shabbat -- Click HERE to register.

10:00 am - 12:00 pm --  Shabbat Morning Service featuring Chizuk (10th grade) students -- Click HERE to register.

12:00 pm - 2:30 pm --  Intentional Break

Have some lunch.  Take a nap.  Go for a walk.  Read a book.  Call a loved one.  No work.  No social media.  No news.

2:30 - 3:30 pm --  Chevruta (partnered) Torah Study for All Ages -- Click HERE to register.

Study the Book of Ruth -- the only book in the Tanakh to pass the Bechdel test! -- with the folks you live with or, if you email Alan at alan.shusterman@hillhavurah.org by Tuesday, May 26th, be matched with an individual or family to study with over Zoom. Study sheets will be provided for teens and adults, families with older children, and families with younger children.

3:45 - 4:45 pm --  Yoga with Jess Gioe -- Click HERE to register.

After all that movement in our minds, we’ll take time to move our bodies as a community with a truly special guest teacher. Get out your yoga mat (or soft rug?) and comfy clothes.

5:00 - 5:30 pm --  Children’s Torah Craft Time -- Click HERE to register.

If you’ve got multiple pieces of paper, crayons or markers or pens, and tape, you’ve got the necessary supplies for this part of the day. We’ll create art inspired by our favorite Torah stories. This activity will be geared towards elementary schoolers, but it should be fun for preschoolers to nonagenarians!

5:30 - 6:30 pm --  Josh Warshawsky Concert! -- Click HERE to register.

Focus in on the concert, or cook dinner while Josh serenades you -- you don’t want to miss this! Check out his music in advance (here), or just be wonderfully surprised.

6:30 - 7:00 pm --  Dinner together/apart

We tried this during our Pesach seder and it was fun -- if you want to keep your cameras on after the concert and see what dinnertime craziness looks like at Rabbi Hannah’s house, we’ll eat dinner together/apart.

7:00 - 7:30 pm --  Virtual Comedy with Robert Mac! -- Click HERE to register.

Something else not to miss -- a local Jewish comedian will send us out of the week and into havdalah with good, clean laughter.

7:30 - 7:45 pm --  Communal Havdalah and Goodnight -- Click HERE to register.

Register for the parts of the day you hope to attend; and if you have any questions, feel free to contact Alan at alan.shusterman@hillhavurah.org. So looking forward to celebrating and engaging in Torah with you!
