Who Wants to Be a Writer? -- A Program for Adults & High School Students
Sunday, April 23, 2023 • 2 Iyar 5783
10:00 AM - 11:00 AMHill Havurah is fortunate to have among our members a number of professional writers. They are Professors, Historians, Teachers, Economists, former Teachers and others. They write fiction and non-fiction, novels, histories and textbooks, and other published materials. Over the next several months, we’re going to meet some of them.
On Sunday, April 23, at 10:00, Adrienne Tropp, a retired teacher, will speak about her life as a writer at Digital Pioneers Academy (709 12th St., SE -- where Yavneh, Hill Havurah’s religious school, is held). While the byline on her website reads “Children’s Writer,” she's also written and/or edited “…background material for…a cookbook…articles for local newspapers and for a parenting magazine, ‘produced’ books for my grandchildren, and…the books shown on this site. And I still have many ideas I want to work on.”
Coffee and snacks will be served.
If you'd like to join us, please register here in advance.
Adrienne’s presentation will include the following:
-
Her writing. What made her focus on Young Adult and "middle level" readers?
-
The creative process. Which types of books are the easiest to get started on?
-
How can people start to put together their own books? Whether cookbooks, travel albums, novels, etc., how can they use computer tools/programs to generate their own?
-
Other topics. For example, how can we encourage middle and high school students to think about improving their own writing?
