Saturday, August 6, 2022 9 Av 5782

8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

8/5/22 12:30 pm Update -- Because of an unexpected family emergency, Jenna Shaw won't be available to lead this program tomorrow night, so we have to cancel it. If you're looking for alternative ways to observe Tisha B'Av, Adas Israel has a number of online events on Saturday and Sunday that you might want to consider. We hope to schedule another learning opportunity with Jenna, in preparation for Elul; stay tuned.

Join Hill Havurah's rabbinic intern Jenna Shaw for an experiential Tisha B'Av learning session on Saturday, August 6th, at 8:00 pm in the Shalom Room at Reformation (212 E. Capitol St., NE).

Tisha B'av at its core is all about how the Jewish people responded to moments of crisis and uncertainty. We’re living in a moment full of "crashes"! As our political systems are shifting while we simultaneously are trying to navigate how to make sense of life in this “post” or “mid” pandemic phase. All while we are growing as people. How do we make sense of this all? Jewish tradition gives us a revolutionary framework for dealing with crises and large-scale change. Could this framework be the tool to help us dream up a dream world? We will be exploring Rabbi Benay Lappe’s theology of “crashes.” This will be a laboratory of discovering how the wisdom of Jewish text can help us shape our responses to moments of uncertainty.

If you'd like to attend, please register here in advance.
