7:30 PM - 8:30 PMOn Tuesday, May 4th, at 7:30 pm, Hill Havurah welcomes Marianne Szegedy-Maszak, author of the family memoir I Kiss Your Hands Many Times: Hearts, Souls, and Wars in Hungary, which was published in 2013 and described by the Wall Street Journal as "equal parts political thriller, romance novel, and Holocaust tragedy.” She'll share with us the extraordinary story -- hidden for many years -- of her family and their journey, which extends from pre-WWII Europe to the United States. It is also a story of the very idiosyncratic experience of Hungarian Jewry in the 20th Century. Here is a link to an article she wrote that summarizes part of the story and the discoveries she made.
A journalist and a Senior Editor at Mother Jones, Ms. Szegedy-Maszak has written for many publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, The New Republic, and The Washington Post. She’s also ghostwritten seven books, the most recent of which was Cubed: The Puzzle of Us All, by the creator of the Rubik’s Cube, Ernö Rubik.
