Professor Sarah Federman About Her Forthcoming Book, The Last Train to Auschwitz (second of two presentations)

Thursday, January 21, 2021 8 Sh'vat 5781

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Second of two presentations/discussions with Professor Sarah Federman, University of Baltimore. Professor Federman is Assistant Professor at the University's School of Public and International Affairs. Her forthcoming book, The Last Train to Auschwitz: The French National Railways and the Journey to Accountability (2021), considers the role of the French National Railways (SNCF) in the World War II Holocaust deportations, and the conflict that continues today in the United States over whether the company has done enough to make amends. Her findings draw on archival research, over 120 interviews (with Jewish leaders, historians, legislators, lawyers and over 80 Holocaust survivors) and pro bono work with the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Department of State.

This second presentation will look at the role of SNCF, its journey to amends, and why the conflict had its climax in Washington DC and Maryland, thousands of miles from--and decades after--where the events took place.
