Lights for Liberty DC-Wide Vigil, Preceded by Special DC-Wide Kabbalat Shabbat

Friday, July 12, 2019 9 Tammuz 5779

6:00 PM - 9:00 PMOutside the White House

From Rabbi Hannah:

I invite you to join me at the White House for the Lights for Liberty vigil to end human detention camps. Our Havurah has committed to supporting just treatment of immigrants and refugees in our country and around the world, and now feels like the right time to stand up as a community for the rights of the people who seek refuge in our country, just as so many of our ancestors did before them. We'll join with other local synagogues for a brief Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6 pm at the New York Avenue Presbytarian Church (1313 New York Avenue, NW). The vigil will begin afterwards at 7 pm with speakers until 9 pm followed by a candlelighting just after the official beginning of Shabbat. You can find logistical updates as they come on the Lights for Liberty DC Facebook page. If you’d be interested in helping to organize a pre-vigil Hill Havurah gathering near the White House, let us know. I’ll be bringing my toddler and encourage Havurah folks of all ages to join (even if just for the beginning).
