Lag B'Omer Picnic at Garfield Park

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 17 Iyar 5782

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Join us for a picnic -- with food, field games, and fun -- in Garfield Park (First & F Streets, SE) to celebrate Lag B'Omer. We'll provide bagels and cream cheese, some snacks and desserts, water and juice boxes, and plates, cups, utensils, etc. We ask you, if you can, to bring something to add to the mix.

Lag B'Omer celebrations traditionally include bonfires, archery, and hair-cutting. While we may or may not be making a bonfire at Garfield Park, there will be toy archery for kids (with suction tipped arrows), kite flying (bring your own kite or fly our little ones), hair cutting (not your own, paper doll hair cutting!), songs, stories, and lots of fun!

Lag B'Omer is also time for taking stock on the journey between Passover and Shavuot. In that spirit, everyone is invited to join a conversation inspired by "Omer on the Anacostia," a series of daily emails focused on issues around racism and inequality, in DC and beyond. The conversation is open to all, whether following the email series or not. (Postings so far available here.) Copies of the related book, Rereading Exodus along the Anacostia, will be available for purchase.

If you'd like to join us, please register here in advance.

This event is supported by a generous grant from The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.
