Jews in Space: Members of the Tribe in Orbit (A Jewish Museum of Maryland Special Digital Tour)

Wednesday, November 11, 2020 24 Cheshvan 5781

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Hill Havurah has arranged with the Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) for a digital tour of their most recent exhibit. On Wednesday, November 11, at 7:00 pm, we will be given a tour of "Jews in Space: Members of the Tribe in Orbit." This exhibit was a year and a half in the making and debuted at the Center for Jewish History in New York.

In this exhibit we will find items as rare as 18th and 19th century rabbinic tomes on astronomy in Hebrew, German, and Yiddish, and items as idiosyncratic as science fiction memorabilia. The exhibit features mementos from Jewish space travelers, and a detailed timeline of Jewish accomplishments in astronomy and spaceflight. Curators have incorporated these ancient Jewish surveys of the cosmos, along with modern science fiction and pop culture references, and included some science and information about actual space programs.

JMM is offering a selection of virtual programs in relation to the Jews in Space exhibit over the coming months, including a deep dive into the works of Mel Brooks with Dr. Arnold Blumberg. For more information, you can visit their website.

Please note: Hill Havurah’s participation is limited to no more than 25 devices. After 25 people have registered, we will start a waiting list.
