Special Yizkor (Memorial) Service this Shabbat

Saturday, April 7, 2018 22 Nisan 5778

9:30 AM - 11:30 AMLutheran Church of the Reformation, 212 East Capitol Street, NE

Our monthly Shabbat service this coming Saturday morning coincides with the eighth (and final) day of Passover. It’s customary on the final day of every major Jewish festival (Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot, plus Yom Kippur as kind of the final day of Rosh Hashanah) to have a memorial service (Yizkor) that enables individuals who have lost a loved one (any loved one, at any time in the past) to join together and recite brief memorial prayers.

We’ll be holding a Yizkor service at the end of our regular Shabbat service this coming Saturday. I hope you’ll join us for the entire Shabbat service, which begins at 9:30 am at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation—in the St. John’s II room on the lower level. The service will include a brief Torah reading and d’var in addition to opportunities for singing together, meditating privately, and hopefully elevating our consciousness on a Shabbat that is also a Yom Tov (a Holy Day).
If you can’t make the whole service you’re welcome to join us just for the Yizkor service, which will start sometime between 11:00-11:30 [we “go with the flow”] and lasts for only 10-15 minutes. Shabbat services will conclude very shortly after that, and all are invited to join us in kiddush, motsi (still over matzoh, I’m afraid), and light refreshments.
